May 29th

Went to church today at a local congregation. It was great, there were about 25 Gringos and about 6 indigenous people. You know those people that sing harmonies during church worship songs? They crack me up.
The sermon was translated into English by one of our leaders, she did an excellent job! There were so many times that I would have said, “I do not know what he said but I am sure it was very spiritual. As a matter of fact, I sometimes feel like that during sermons in English. Christians are weird.
I am looking forward to our next destination, it is a little more vacation style. I am tired and sore from working or roofs. The majority of the time, I am not actually working but just kind of helping. Today I was working with Harrison the Ecuadorian construction manager, while everyone else went to an indigenous community. I felt cool because the only time that I actually did any work was right when every body passed. I was precariously balanced on an inclined roof beam, hauling some heavy pieces of metal. Just another day in the life I guess.

  1. The mother in me says, "Be careful on that wood beam!"....the sister in me says, "Hey, see if you can balance on one foot!"

Remember that time you climbed a tree (not showing off or anything really) and then hung from it, while talking on the cell phone, twisted around, fell twelve feet, landed smack on your back, and never missed beat on the phone despite the pain and fear surging through your body. Yea? I love that memory.
Basically dont do that on the roof in Ecuador!!!!

  2. Spencer: I'm sending you a squealer just like Mrs. Weasley did to Ron. DO NOT PRECARIOUSLY BALANCE ON ANYTHING THAT IS MORE THAN 2 FEET OFF THE FLOOR!!!

As for Kate's memory of your hanging in the tree phone call, since you weren't hurt, it was one of the most hilarious things I've ever seen!!! I do remember having to launder your dress shirt from the fall however!

Thanks for letting us live vicariously in Ecuador through it. It is awesome to say the least.

Remember your brother skipping 7th grade to head for 8th? Well, he was given a big math assessment yesterday to see where he would start in math. He scored, are you ready for this, 12th grade, 9th month!!! I guess he is a braniac just like you. Tomorrow is their last day of school for the summer. They are so excited! Read Colossians 1. Interesting stuff about the energy that God gives us. Spoons 4 Forks should arrive here on Saturday. We're looking forward to having them here for the week. Had a great time with the Robbins' on Mackinaw Island over Memorial Day weekend. Very excited to hear that you are ONU's Michigan representative! Maybe we'll see you more than usual. Big hugs! Momma
